Quote of the Week – April 5

It is very rare to hear the sentence “I am having a heart attack.”

This humorous quote comes from Peter Canning’s 1997 novel Paramedic: On the front lines of medicine. Peter is referring to a patient with Torsades des Pointes. He glanced down at the EKG monitor and saw a type of ventricular tachycardia known as torsades des pointes. He then peered up and over the monitor to witness his patient sitting upright calmly adjusting her belt.

I like this quote as it underlines the saying “Treat the patient, not the monitor”.
